Storm

flashes surround us
swimming through dark night at noon
cloying heat turns cool

One day we were driving from Raleigh to the beach at Bogue Banks as a thunderstorm loomed up on the horizon. We drove right into the storm. The rain was nearly horizontal under the black clouds and the lightning was striking all around us. As the lightning hit a tree on the side of the road it was terrifying. It was awe-inspiring.
